Car Fiasco

When I was a new driver my mother's car was a 1956 Chrysler Imperial-black-I always thought it was gorgeous! I never got to drive really except to the 7-Eleven to pick things up for my mother.

On Weds. nights my mother played bridge at the Petroleum Club and was usually gone about 4 hours. Wellll I had a key made and when she was picked up for bridge, I would take the car. In my hometown we had 2 drive-in restaurants(one on the east side of town and the other on the west). There was a well worn path from one to the other as teenagers drove through each and back to the other unless they stopped for a hamburger, fries or cherry coke.

Wellll one Weds. night I had stopped in Derrick#2 for a vanilla coke and a boy who was a friend wanted to drive my "black beauty" and not realizing the quickness of the power steering broke off the back taillight up on the fin as he hit the speaker!!!! All I could see was wires holding the light which was hanging on the side of the car.

Oh My Goodness - what to do!!!! My mother would KILL me not only for the taillight but for taking the car in the first place. So I took the car to a service station with a mechanic and he mounted it back up with screws after he drilled holes in the light mount and the fin. Looked good!!! Great!!! My mother never mentioned this to me, EVER.

But, my first mistake was taking the car as the neighbor watched from her picture window and the second was taking the car to my mother's regular service station to get the light repaired. No matter - I later got "black beauty" as a hand me down. YEA!!
